At the end of the 2010-2011 school year, a small group of Esperanza Middle School students attended a county-wide JS2S training.  The students learned from a research-based curriculum about the needs of transitioning students.  At the training, these students created an action plan for starting JS2S at Esperanza for the 2011-2012 school year.

2011-2012 is the first full year for the JS2S Initiative at EMS.  We plan to achieve the following this year:
  • Increase the number of members involved in the program.
  • Create a "Welcome to Esperanza" video to show to all new students.
  • Create an informational flyer about life at Esperanza Middle School.
  • Work collaboratively with the school counselors to match JS2S members with new students for guided tours of the school.
  • Have a lunch table in the cafeteria where new students and JS2S members can sit.
  • Meet at least twice each month for after school activities.
